If a task is once begun,
Never leave it till it’s done.
Be the labor great or small,
Do it well or not at all.

The Story Behind the Work

When I was a small child, my mother had me memorize this little poem. It has served me well over the years — a quiet reminder of the beauty in order, care, and a job well done. I appreciate its message more every day. Both she and my grandmother held great sway over the way I viewed living and workspaces.

I am drawn to calming, simple beauty and orderly systems in both my home and work. I spent 32 years in public education. I loved creating an inspiring space for learning and arranging the classroom in a way that demonstrated the importance of tidiness and taking care of belongings. Later, I served as a campus librarian. I didn’t just work there — I belonged there, as if it were my natural habitat… among all the order of books, schedules, systems, quiet reading nooks, and joyful curiosity.

I brought this same mindset to my final years in education as a campus administrator, knowing that order and beauty send a message to students, families, co-workers, and customers.

Now that I’ve retired, I find myself enjoying flexible but meaningful work — and a little extra spending money! A Task Well Done allows me to do what I love: serve others well. Fortunately, I have a husband who far exceeds me in tidiness. Together, along with other well-vetted and trusted co-workers, we make a great team.

We believe that when work is done with love, it shows — in the details, in the calm, and in the joy of seeing things made right.
